Seaton Bay on Devon's Jurassic Coast
Events 2010

Seaton and the Towns and Villages of East Devon are part of a lively, vibrant region whose communities host an selection of annual and special events, from parades, fairs, and festivals to celebrations of the area's many unique qualities and characteristics.

Many attractions also host events and there are always active events going on for charity, from a leisurely walk or an endurance race of running or cycling. For the more active amongst us, there are various sporting events throughout the year to enjoy as a participant or spectator.

The summer months see music festivals as well as the local traditional agricultural shows. There are also farmer's markets in most towns and villages all year round and bands playing in intimate and major venues alike. There really is something going on to suit all tastes, whatever the weather.

If you would like to add your event to this web page, please e-mail the details to:- contact@seatonbay.com

All listings are free of charge and any type of event which will be of interest to residents and visitors will be listed.

The Great Tour

On 3rd July 2010 an intrepid band of cyclists drawn from the worlds of sport, celebrity, charity, politics, science and the arts will gather in Seaton, Devon, to embark on one the Britain's last great sporting challenges - to circumnavigate the British Coastline by bicycle. Keeping the sea to their right for 64 days, the riders will never lose the sight, smell or sound of the sea during their epic 6600km pedal for charity.

The Great Tour is one of the UK's last great challenges and Up to 40 cyclists a day will ride the route, made up of the core team of around 20 cyclists who are tackling the full 6,600 kilometre route, they will be joined by additional riders from the public who have been sponsered to ride one or more of the daily stages.

The Great Tour is a sister event to the Annual Road Cycling Tour of Britain which passed through Seaton in 2009. The charities supported by the Great Tour are, The Prostate Cancer Charity and Caravan, the National Grocers Benevolent Fund.

This will be the inaugural Great Tour, which will become an annual charity bike ride.

The Great Tour will take 64 days to complete and travel 6600km. Cyclists will climb a total of 87,500m of up hills and spend 500 hours in the saddle making 1.5 million pedal turns.

The Start of the Great Tour on the 3rd July will be on Seaton Seafront between 10.00 and 10.30am when the cyclists will set off on the 1st day's stage, cycling 128km to Swanage.

The Finish of the Grand Tour will be on the sea front at Seaton on the 4th September, the day of Seaton’s Illuminated Carnival Procession.
