Interests

around Seaton and East Devon

There are many events and activities which are organised by different clubs and societies in and around Seaton. Although many of the events organised are attended by the local residents of the area, visitors to the town are welcomed and encouraged.

Seaton Film Club

Seaton Film Club was set up in January 2003. Its aim is to bring back the cinema to Seaton. It was decided to show films at the Town Hall on a regular basis and to make the evening complete they serve a hot meal, usually 'Chicken and Chips'. A bar is available, with a typical price of £5 per bottle of wine.

Seaton Drama Group

Seaton Drama Group was founded in 1950 as the Seaton Amateur Dramatic Society and has been presenting plays on the Town Hall stage since that time.

After celebrating fifty years of continual ‘play-acting’ the society decided in 2001 to alter its name to Seaton Drama Group. Although the name changed, everything else stayed the same and we are very proud that some of our current members have been with the group since its earliest days.

We have been very lucky in recent times to have attracted several new, young members who add a refreshing dimension both to the group and also the variety of plays which we can perform. Having said that, we are always pleased to welcome new members of any age, male or female, acting or non-acting. We are very fortunate to have our own workshop where we create our sets and props, and if your interest is in the area of backstage work we would be pleased to offer you the opportunity to participate with us.

Axe Valley Runners

Our home base is Seaton in East Devon but many of our members hail from the surrounding area including Beer, Axminster and West Dorset.

While it is true that some of us have rather sublime running inclinations most are just normal runners (more or less!) with 10K times ranging from 34 minutes to an hour.

We cater for a wide range of ages from our very active juniors up to some members being in their seventies (and no less active!).

Club nights are on Mondays from 6:30pm at Seaton Scout Hut in Scalwell Lane.

We have a 3.5-mile handicap race on the first Monday in each month and also hold occasional special events such as racing a tram from Seaton to Colyton and the infamous Mars Bar Relays.

Some of the slower runners meet on Wednesdays for a sociable jog and many faster ones hit the hills around Beer on Thursdays.

We also organise occasional club outings to races en masse (e.g. Haselbury Trail, Clarendon Marathon) or just to run (e.g. part of the Wessex Ridgeway, the River Coly, a day in South Wales).

Axe Valley Pedallers (AVP)

A social cycling group (The Axe Valley Pedallers) is based in Seaton, East Devon. in the Axe Valley.

Since January 2005 we have met every 2nd Sunday of each month.

We also meet each Thursday evening. New events and activities are occurring all the time and we have recently set up a separate Tuesday night meet, which is lead by Tuesday Ride Captain 'Buster C', and a Friday daytime ride by 'Chequers'.

While our principal aim is to raise the profile of cycling in the Axe Valley area, our primary purpose is to get those who enjoy cycling, both young and old, to come together on a social basis, and share a most enjoyable recreational pursuit in a wonderful area on the East Devon/West Dorset border.

Our current “official” base is the Kings Arms public house in Colyford Road Seaton. This is where we meet each Thursday evening (6.30pm) for a leisurely ride which can be as long or as short as those who turn up want it to be, never forgetting that we meet up within the pub from 8.45pm onwards to enjoy each others company.
